The West Virginia Mailpouch Barn has become a landmark for the state. I always remembered loving to see these wonders while traveling the back roads of West Virginia. What is a Mailpouch Barn? A barn painted with the chewing tobacco company on one or two sides from 1890 to 1992. The Mailpouch Chewing Tobacco company based in Wheeling, WV had over 20,000 painted barns spread across 22 states in the early 1960s. Barns could be found as far as the state of California. Due to lack of care and barns being demolished very few of these remain standing today.
